Poker school
Ladbrokes, the online casino and betting website, also has an online poker section. This is known mostly for their “Poker school” videos, where Jon “Skalie” Kalmar – the professional poker player at Ladbrokes.com, teaches actor and director Nick Moran (you might know him from “Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”) how to play poker.
The team at Ladbrokes is hosting their anual Irish Poker Festival, which they have recently announced to be held from 1st to 3rd of October this year. This is the third time that Ladbrokes have organized this tournament.
If you decide to participate, the tournament will cost you 900 euros, which includes the buy in for the 550 euros main event. The festival also features two smaller side tournaments, on the 3rd on 4th of October. And, of course, every night comes with partying and drinking, in a way only the Irish can.
The main event’s prize is 100,000 euros, the same as last year’s. And speaking of last year, in 2009 the prize went to Thomas Rolfe, aka “r0lfus”, who had been playing poker for only a year and a half. This was his first win at a tournament, and he described the tournament atmosphere as the best he’d ever seen.
If the tournament caught your eye, or simply made you a little curious, perhaps you should practice a bit at Ladbrokes’ tables. When registering on the Ladbrokes Poker section, you can enter “TABLOID” in the Ladbrokes Poker promotion code section to gain a 100% bonus for your first deposit of up to $1,000.
Or – if you decide not to go – you can always bet on the players, also at Ladbrokes. Betting requires downloading no software at all, and you can create a free account at their website. Also, as an ongoing promotion, if you deposit up to 10 euros, you will receive a 100% bonus, practically doubling your cash.
